Re: Shear Anarchy / San Dorado [Worldbuilding Exercise]

Revised history of the Sarakan Peninsula 1890: Lash of the Dead Khan - a series of border skirmishes exposes the strategic weakness of the Daedalean Empire. 1900-1906: Three Crowns War - Teyrnon-Canhastyr invades the Sarakan Peninsula on a flimsy pretext. The War House expected to fight a brief col...

Re: Sovereigns of the Stars Supreme, revisited

I wonder if there's not some sort of... right-angled intersection, between the noosphere of rapidly expanding Solarian thought-stuff, this coginova of supercharged dream/morals/enlightenment exploding into the cosmos, and the Datasphere, which is essentially this same notion clad in technology. If t...

Re: Sovereigns of the Stars Supreme, revisited

I would imagine you could theoretically use psions to relay a message to another star system in real time, provided you can find a psion willing to do such utterly pedestrian work for you. It's hard to conceive a reason why you'd rely on psions though instead of communicating through the Datasphere ...

Re: Sovereigns of the Stars Supreme, revisited

I'm not sure if the CI strategists are aware of the ironic monster they've created. It may well be a deliberate strategy on the part of the Sovereignty: tie up as many Bragulan resources in their ridiculous military to prevent them from ever devoting enough to catch up to the speed of technological...

Sitarah, the seat of the Malik of Dar Qimr, is also known as the City of Small Gods. According to belief in the Malikate there are gods in all things, from the smallest objects to the very largest. There are gods that reign over fire, wind, grains of sand, houses, animals, forests - and also vast go...

It's looking very good, and Marvel hasn't let me down in years. The spliced falling-and-getting-back-up over the years footage is particularly awesome. Very clever way to show character very fast!

Re: Sovereigns of the Stars Supreme, revisited

For some time now I've though of Sidney as someone who was around during the Earthreign, and possibly even played a role in its establishment. It makes sense to me: he was already biologically immortal with a few centuries under his belt and an ego the size of the sun, he thought he knew what was be...

Re: Project Epsilon (Science Fantasy Wargame/Tabletop RPG concept)

That's an interesting way to present what otherwise might be a pretty dry technical dissertation on the various kinds of weapons in use, Heretic. Love the way you spotlight some of the more... incongruous elements of your setting. The various different characters come through pretty well, even thoug...

Re: Sovereigns of the Stars Supreme, revisited

It could work the other way around as well; if Salieri isn't present the King of Hungary cannot have his entrance music, because no-one except the maestro can perform it with his exacting transhuman precision, and anything less is unacceptable (and no-one would steep so low as to enter to a recordi...

Re: Sovereigns of the Stars Supreme, revisited

Heck, if a noble decides to dabble in such arts themselves and acts as a conductor for a whole concert... You might like to read Mary Gentle's The Black Opera ;-) . It's funny that you mention Lord Byron because there's definitely a romantic ideal in Auriga where, as a noble armed with nothing but ...

The court's prima donna's efficiency as a living aural weapon is in direct proportion to her efficiency as a sinfoniettic haute-contre.

Re: Shear Anarchy / San Dorado [Worldbuilding Exercise]

The Palmaran Confederacy does not have a modern constitution; rather it operates on a complex system of ancient charters, privileges and liberties accrued over centuries. The Tertia ('Thirty') is an assembly of representatives from all six Palmaran counties. Its seats are unevenly divided along line...

The map is essentially hand drawn in paint.net. I've tried those online fancy map generators for RPGs and such but they never come out quite looking the way I want them to :-) . Re: Shear Anarchy / San Dorado [Worldbuilding Exercise]

These esoterics are applied in other lands and nations, with variations, I presume? That honestly remains to be resolved. San Dorado in many ways is distinct from its world, not least because it's been developing in my head for many years longer than much of the setting. The intention is to include...

Re: Shear Anarchy / San Dorado [Worldbuilding Exercise]

There is no final draft of San Dorado. The city is as much a physical as it is a symbolic and mental construct. It is not so by accident. The early foundations of San Dorado were based on the six principle sacred hills, the relationship between the hills and the geometric impressions that emerged be...

Found ye olde backups

Denizens, In the years of yesteryore there used to be a much different forum here. That place vanished in a spectacular crash that took with much that is now lost and only half-remembered. The people however sang songs of a legendary backup that was said to exist in a distant mythical land called Si...

I haven't seen the first Jurassic World and have no plans to see the sequel. Something about those movies (or rather their trailers) makes them look so... flavorless, repetitious and unnecessary. Re: Official Movie Review Thread

Yeah. We don't know what Dathomir is, if it's a town or a planet or a station, why Maul is there or why it's relevant. Earlier in Solo it's suggested that the crime syndicates are working with the Empire; is Maul? If so, why? There's nothing in any of the movies that suggests he's even alive after K...
