Re: Shear Anarchy / San Dorado [Worldbuilding Exercise]

The Exchanges Located along Rushlight Street and the Miracle Mile on Shevirat the Exchanges ('the Courts', ‘the Fluster’ or less favourably 'the Dead End') is the main financial district of the city and a notable centre for worldwide trade, both historically and in the present day. The Exchanges ar...

Re: Official Movie Review Thread

And I think that's the main part of what annoys me in your review, the meta aspect of it. It comments on a bunch of things that I personally feel are neither here nor there with regards to this movie - people who aren't in it, movies that are yet to follow, things you can glean from sources external...

Re: Official Movie Review Thread

I find it odd that you would insist on calling a movie with pretty much all the Avengers in it not an Avengers movie, just because there's not a scene where all of them show up in the same place. It's still the Avengers trying to stop Thanos by doing Avengers things, but it's not the Avengers becaus...

"We're not quite sure what happened to Las Vegas. We know some people made it out of ground zero of the event. We know we sent some people in that never came back, or when they did - well let's just say no-one came back and leave it at that. It helps me sleep at night. We tried other ways too: dron...

Re: Official Movie Review Thread

If you're in one of them otheroid countries where Annihilation just shows up on Netflix, you're in luck. 'Cause that's a frickin' cool movie. I got my dose of lingering slow-burn body horror, and some good old 2001-style 'what the fuck is this alien thingo and what's it want we dunno' to go with it....

Re: Official Movie Review Thread

That fight at least was genuinely exciting, because it was the first time you got to see all the Avengers cut loose in a well choreographed battle against nameless alienoid hordes. Seriously that shot where they zoom from Avenger to Avenger in one glorious continuous CGI splurgefest of a shot is st...

Re: Official Movie Review Thread

I really liked Black Panther, it was a fine and fun movie, but it still coulda done without the giant brawl at the end, especially since it felt like there was 20 minutes of politics and character work cut from the final act to make room for a typical superhero fight. So many scenes that went nowher...

No worries gentlemen, this is all just one small inaugural step in my nine-step plan to have Shirley Manson whisper sweet nothings in my ear. Yes, step six is world domination... Wait, what do you mean, 'wrong Bond movie'?

Menasha [/size] https://preview.ibb.co/hX72VR/Menasha.png At the heart of San Dorado’s southern sprawl lies the Menasha ghetto district. It stretches from the Blackwall Basin and the river Slate in the east to the Skelton Sink in the west. It’s estimated that nearly a sixth of San Dorado’s populace...

Like I said, I haven't seen it yet. But at this stage we're treating it like a 'if the weather is utterly terrible on Saturday and we literally can't think of anything else to do we might go see it' type of movie. I mean, I'm reasonably confident we're pretty much the target demographic here. If we ...

I haven't seen Justice League , but everything about it screams 'shortcut' to me. Don't bother introducing the main characters first, don't set up the tesseract mother boxes, don't explore the effects of the death of Superman for any length of time - just skip straight to the part where the big thin...

Re: Random Ideas (Input Requested!)

It took some getting used to ;) . Now I really dig her a lot though, as a sharp juxtaposition to the brawny oorah mandude characters that tend to proliferate in CSW. Not to disparage any of those, but it's also good to have other characters that reflect something beyond just the manly military facets.

Re: Official Movie Review Thread

'The Avengers mopped up some bases off-screen while we weren't watching' to me implies that whatever happened there wasn't worth our time and attention, so it can't have been very difficult, dramatic or imposing a task to dismantle this, you know, vast and ancient superterror network that existed in...

I'm not even trying to avoid a Big Fight, just adding enough ingredients to make a Big Fight compelling - the personal stakes, the "weight" behind their glares and snarls, hence Bucky versus Cap in Winter Soldier, Stark versus Stane, maybe even Star Loyd and Space Kurt Russel 100% Death Proof God. ...

Re: Official Movie Review Thread

I'm not saying that it shouldn't be in Asgard, but the final sequence just came off as pretty generic. I wouldn't know how to avoid that, since it was set up for a standard Fantasy Epic Throw Down. I don't know... but it just came off as whelming and was overshadowed by the goofy bits in Goldblumga...

What more creative investment do the final bits of the movie need, in your opinion? I can sort of see what you mean, and even agree to an extent, but then we're not on Skaara Sakaar anymore; we're on Asgard, which is well established to be a certain way. I'm not seeing much opportunity to set Ragnar...

I massively enjoyed Ragnarok . I suppose there's something critical to be said about it's relentless pun-fueled pace, even when there was Serious Stuff Afoot, but I loved every glorious moment of it. I just dig that a movie about the freaking Norse god of thunder simultaneously takes the main charac...
