Re: Sovereigns of the Stars Supreme, revisited
This touches on something I've been thinking about - the lifecycle of Apexai. It is known that Apexai have vast and powerful minds, that grow increasingly moreso as they advance in age, and they can grow to be very ancient indeed. Meanwhile I don't think in all this time we've ever really seen any A...

Re: Official Movie Review Thread
I know what you mean. It's an epic ride with a lot of jaw-dropping moments, but it felt a little more difficult to follow along all the separate plot threads once the story got going. It felt less seemless than Infinity War . And I'm not entirely sure about the decisions surrounding Captain America ...

Re: Shear Anarchy / San Dorado [Worldbuilding Exercise]
Ah, I see. It's more of a double-layered representative system, except the Shareholders are basically the electorate, but only Councilmen can actually vote on issues, and they can't split the votes they represent. I seem to be missing who chairs a regular Chamber meeting, though. The Mayor chairs t...

Re: Shear Anarchy / San Dorado [Worldbuilding Exercise]
I'm glad that in order to preserve its exclusive character, the Chamber of Councilmen didn't go for something sensible like proxy voting. :v They kind of have though :). Councilmen have voting power proportional to the number of shares they represent. I should probably have clarified that (EDIT: an...

Re: Shear Anarchy / San Dorado [Worldbuilding Exercise]
This is honestly more to keep my own thoughts straight, but it might as well be up here. I may have given this too much thought. Governing San Dorado The public eye has many misconceptions about San Dorado. But perhaps the most common and easy misunderstanding concerns its governance. It is accepted...

He is, I think, what he needs to be. First and foremost to survive, and secondly to prevail in his ambitions -- the most imperative of which is continued survival. All else is tertiary at best. If the most advantageous way forward is to shed his MORTAL FORM in favor of the occult biochemistries of s...

Is he so detached that even those definitions and perspectives can't even apply or can't even capture what he's trying to do? I fancy thinking it's a tangled web of conflicting motivations. A disjoined sense of dismay and chagrin at former failures, yes. A susceptibility to the flattery of a person...

Re: Sovereigns of the Stars Supreme, revisited
So the other day I got to thinking. The Sovereignty famously uses replicants, flash-grown and mind-printed for maximum soldierly efficiency, as its boots on the ground in Wild Space. The Sovereignty also sources its technology mainly from two origins: the Apexai on the one hand and Pan-Empyrean on t...

Re: Shear Anarchy / San Dorado [Worldbuilding Exercise]
The Eye of Sher Razma or the Ravening Waste is a system of deserts and dry lakes in the heart of Khem Qimr. Very few people live here. It is said to be the place where in primeval times a vast god fell to earth, whose head is kept in the mythical city of Syr Tengzi, hidden deep in the forbidding de...

Srdjan Karic , the autocratic dictator of Sjenska, was not always an oppressive tyrant. Once he was a mild-mannered professor of philosophy in Secujac, a small town in the sloping hills of northern Sjenska. Until in 1974, in the midst of the civil war, when a Karasuk militia ethnically cleansed the...

Revised history of the Sarakan Peninsula 1890: Lash of the Dead Khan - a series of border skirmishes exposes the strategic weakness of the Daedalean Empire. 1900-1906: Three Crowns War - Teyrnon-Canhastyr invades the Sarakan Peninsula on a flimsy pretext. Re: Sovereigns of the Stars Supreme, revisited
I wonder if there's not some sort of... right-angled intersection, between the noosphere of rapidly expanding Solarian thought-stuff, this coginova of supercharged dream/morals/enlightenment exploding into the cosmos, and the Datasphere, which is essentially this same notion clad in technology. If t...

Re: Sovereigns of the Stars Supreme, revisited
I would imagine you could theoretically use psions to relay a message to another star system in real time, provided you can find a psion willing to do such utterly pedestrian work for you. It's hard to conceive a reason why you'd rely on psions though instead of communicating through the Datasphere ...

Re: Sovereigns of the Stars Supreme, revisited
I'm not sure if the CI strategists are aware of the ironic monster they've created. It may well be a deliberate strategy on the part of the Sovereignty: tie up as many Bragulan resources in their ridiculous military to prevent them from ever devoting enough to catch up to the speed of technological...

For some time now I've though of Sidney as someone who was around during the Earthreign, and possibly even played a role in its establishment. It makes sense to me: he was already biologically immortal with a few centuries under his belt and an ego the size of the sun, he thought he knew what was be...

It could work the other way around as well; if Salieri isn't present the King of Hungary cannot have his entrance music, because no-one except the maestro can perform it with his exacting transhuman precision, and anything less is unacceptable (and no-one would steep so low as to enter to a recordi...
