Re: Sovereigns of the Stars Supreme, revisited
I'd really love to see Sovereigns of the Stars revisited. Looking back on it now, I think there was a remarkable strength to it. Not necessarily because it was weird, though it was in its own a glitzy, grimy parody of real life, but because it had things in it which really only existed to give it fl...

Re: Art Thread (Concerns)
You're thinking like some guy designing a space galleon/elaborate fetish dildo. What do a billion greebles do which making the skin a phased array and just freeming people with lasers doesn't? As it stands it just ruins the lines and is really awkward looking. The 20th century casemates plastered wi...

Re: Open Character Creation Thread
Man is that a real building? It just seems too obviously like a giant computer running the Soviet economy. Actually it's interesting how a relatively benign idea has seemingly informed a lot of how the Soviet Union has survived into the 21st century. A lot of 'Soviets continue' things are honestly p...

Re: Xenosurf
I thought I should take some time out to talk about the Aleph Manifestation Principle in detail. I have to stress that this a really vague part of the physics of the setting currently, but it's also a part which I can talk about without really spoiling what is close to the most important element of ...

Re: Xenosurf
Yup, this is definitely your shtick, and its fantastical nature works really well. I'm especially interested in the worldbuilding, though the story itself would be a good read as well. The setting and story is still in flux, so I think doing this sort of rambling psuedo-worldbuilding will be helpfu...

Re: Byzantine Imperium
To what extent do you intend to divorce this particularly from the SDNW4 context, and the Warhammer 40,000 context. While I think I've sort of moved on from the existing or historical nation transposed into space motif, there's a lot of neat imagery involved in the fall of Byzantium, the rise of the...

Re: Xenosurf
Okay, so I think I've got something ticking over, but it still needs a lot of work here and there. Basically the society of the Great Surf has a caste system. In the past this was a really big deal and tied into a lot of beliefs regarding ritual purity, but it has since become less of a thing with v...

Re: Xenosurf
I am nothing if not a total Ryusei lol As this is a writing project rather than a worldbuilding one, I more or less started with the characters. Actually, I tell a lie, I started with a caste system and a system of space magic, but both those elements have since changed (the caste system is in limbo...

Re: It's been a while, old friends
Not in education anymore. Times are hard and all in the family need to contribute, so I'm working for an American free publishing company as a copyeditor. Better money, although, yeah, long hours and really crappy manuscripts. That sucks a little, but if the family is struggling I guess you do have...

Re: Xenosurf
I will continue with more of the supporting cast. So far detailing this stuff has been pretty helpful - I was able to break through some gaps in my knowledge of the plot thanks to it. Anyway, continuing: X enosurf - III - The Supporting Cast Probably the most important member of the supporting cast ...

Re: Xenosurf
I guess the most important element of the story is the cast itself, and to a lesser extent the giant robots they pilot. I should probably stress that while the giant robots are instruments of the wider plot, Xenosurf is not really a 'giant robot story'. I suppose the distinction between a story abou...

Re: Eldritch Enterprise (RPG)
Silent Hill 4: The Room was not a great game, but the central element, the titular room, was a fundamentally pretty cool idea. As you delimit the environment in which characters operate, I think you can really increase the tension and drama.

Xenosurf
Recently I felt the need to mirror Takahashi Tetsuya's ( Xenogears, Xenosaga, Xenoblade ) attempt at a cosmic epic. At its core, Xenosurf is a story which follows the protagonist, Arjuna Fudo, and her six companions as the attempt to unravel they mysteries behind their world and solve a cosmic puzzl...

Re: Eldritch Enterprise (RPG)
Man, there is something quite thematic about the whole 'financial firms as avatars of dark entities and at the root of a total apocalypse scenario' ,though perhaps it is not the most subtle. ;) it strikes me as being potentially interesting that the setting's finance elements mean that you could the...

Re: It's been a while, old friends
Maybe try starting in media res and running from there. You'd be surprised at how well dropping a character into the action (the narrative action, I mean, not the literal kind necessarily) works as an introduction. You can cover how they work together, how they act in climatic situations etc etc. Th...
