Re: "The Coming Storm" - "Undiscovered Frontier" Season 3 (Multiverse Space Opera Crossover)

Act 3 In the command center of the old Ancient city, Doctor Daniel Jackson looked over the data display Lucy brought up for him and the rest of SG-1. "It's definitely Ancient," he confirmed. "It matches every other example we've found of the language." "So the Ancients eith...

Re: Official Movie Review Thread

As did I. And it'll be interesting to see where they go with the franchise from here. Endgame's success is both good and bad: good in that it shows the depth of support for the MCU, bad in that it might tempt them to make lightning strike twice instead of, say, shifting the formula a bit. And since ...

Re: "The Coming Storm" - "Undiscovered Frontier" Season 3 (Multiverse Space Opera Crossover)

Normally a Dilgar ship was commanded by a Battle Captain, or even in the case of smaller vessels a Battle Expert, with Group Captains leading sections below that level and acting as XOs of frigates. In the case of the Union, however, Kaveri Varma was a Battlemaster and still in command of a ship. Th...

I hope he still is after those missions. This game is, hrm... unforgiving. I will go with that. The time limits are tight and it will punish you if you are an imprecise flier or try to run missions without the proper equipment. And they love to throw challenges at you, like adding searchlights to th...

So Ace Combat 7 is out. I know a few people here have used Ace Combat-related material in memes and stories before, so I was curious if anyone was playing it or considering getting it.

*wink* Neither design actually originated in the Earthreign.  8-) The first thought being how this Earthreign's starships have a very different distinctive look than the one Shroom and I eventually settled on. Though I suppose the sheer age of the de Trier can mark it as being fr...

Re: nUF Origins: S1 - Episode 6 - "Meta Incognita"

Unfortunately it is really hard to write a profound technological mismatch well. Blending the two plots was intended to mitigate this, and I grimaced a lot and felt like I was undercutting the Firefly characters, but I couldn't write myself out of it. In the end the result was 10,000 words longer t...

Re: nUF Origins: S1 - Episode 6 - "Meta Incognita"

Huh. I'm not fully decided on how SOTS hyperdrive works specifically, since various factions have different sub-types and variations anyway. For civilian vessels sure beacons are a thing. But more advanced ships? Probably not. Those varaiations and subtypes are likely all based on the original tech...

Re: nUF Origins: S1 - Episode 6 - "Meta Incognita"

But Steve, I have barely developed anything definite at all. It's all being filtered through the attitudes of people with hidden agendas and personal biases. Yes, it is. But even such a filter gives some idea of what's going on, albeit not a perfect one. It's still a fleshing out, and it hints at I...

An excellent episode indeed.

Also, I'm curious what Invictus, Shroom, and the others think about what you've developed about the Terran Reich aka the Earthreign for this continuity.

Re: nUF Origins: S1 - Episode 6 - "Meta Incognita"

There was a mystery spaceship in the Voltron chapter? The ship that Allura's mother was on, that jumped in at the end to shield the Aurora and Castle of Lions (and Koenig ) from the Ministry of Fate forces and which opened a jump point back to the Voltronverse for them to flee through. Actually, we...

Re: "Tales from the Undiscovered Frontier"

The Lookout isn't gourmet so much as a general restaurant. Hargert's a great cook, but he's not making foie gras and caviar.

But I see what you mean. The tech does allow for greater ease in making places like that.

Re: nUF Origins: S1 - Episode 6 - "Meta Incognita"

Ooh so is that what the mystery spaceship from Steve's Voltron chapter was. There's a lot I can pontificate about that doesn't necessarily apply to this version of the Earthreign, but I'd say that the biggest mystery about Imra so far is how a survivor from the Earthreign even remembers the Earthre...

Re: "Tales from the Undiscovered Frontier"

The Culinary Lab isn't so much difference science as it is a reflection of a cultural approach to eating places. The Gersallian minority that the lounge's operator comes from has an appreciation for such kinds of eateries, so he implemented it on the Maimonides.

The assembled rescuers and rescuees heard that. There was no hiding the disappointment and worry it brought. Their fates were in the hands of the Maimonides crew. “Alright, we need to fall back to the cargo bay, we definitely haven’t killed the entire prize crew yet. I can still feel them and they’r...

Re: "Tales from the Undiscovered Frontier"

On some ships the crew lounge was given a specific name. On the Aurora , it was called the Lookout, while on the Huascar , it was Cafe Varna. On the Maimonides , it was the Culinary Lab. The reason for the particular name was its main distinction from other such facilities. The proprietor of the lou...

"Tales from the Undiscovered Frontier"

The thing about about any fictional setting is the potential for stories aside from those followed in the prime material. Some settings even turn to this as fodder for other media (Star Wars being a big example). Make a multiple crossover, and this potential expands exponentially, to the point that ...

Neuro-control technology is probably not too uncommon, no. The BattleTech universe has it, for instance, since said tech plays a key role in controlling BattleMechs (in fact, IIRC neurohelmets are also used by pilots of aerospace fighters). But psionic tech is a different beast; it's probably only i...

In the barracks Lucy faced a Cylon doppelganger yet again. It was disconcerting to see her face marked with the sign of corruption, a feeling her very survival forced her to keep suppressed. As with prior Cylons she'd fought, she sensed the raw aggression and anger fueling her copy's movements and p...
