Re: The Major Powers

With space age and industrializations now, what role do firearms play, or does magic throw away that need? They have guns, although hand to hand weapons retain a secondary role for dealing with enemies that have anti-projectile countermeasures. They also tend to combine magic and guns. For example,...

Re: Arcane Science [Magic]

So basically I'm asking what souls actually do in this universe. Can messing with someone's soul be the equivalent of a low-level brainhack? Are souls singular, non-reducible? Or are they made of more simple bits that can be in turn reduced to more simple bits? They already have an entire school of...

Re: The Minor Powers

Are these guys more or less your typical cyberpunk megacorp goons? They sound like good antagonists as well as protagonists. The Rangers protagonists, although they sometimes work for bad people. One thing worth mentioning: in this setting working as a mercenary carries far less stigma than in real...

Arcane Science [Magic]

Magic Magic, also commonly known as Arcane Science or Arcanics, is the study and application of metaphysical forces and how they affect the world. Magical technology has grown hand in hand with mechanical technology, and in some fields has completely overtaken or displaced it. The origin of the stu...

Re: Time Travel Agencies

Do they have some sort of temporal anchor device-thing? Or something more sophisticated.

On a different note, how do these people reliably influence their timelines. I'd expect timelines to be a chaotic system, so projecting the effects of even minor changes would be phenomenally difficult.

Re: The Major Powers

Republic of Tyrre Capital: Tarres (population 5 million) Population: 250 million (10% abhuman, 3% soulforged) It is difficult to properly identify the historical antecedent of the Republic of Tyrre beyond a few hundred years because it has been such a cultural crossroads. The semi-tropical Tyrran A...

Re: Rise of Empire

First of all, that map is real mindfuck. Some kind of cartographical uncanny valley-just enough like the Mediterranean to be familiar, just different enough to drive you crazy. ;) It has one moon called Selene, and a ring around the equator, a scintillating ring of brilliant silver that is visible a...

Re: The Minor Powers

The Errynt Clan The Errynt Clan is a lesser mega-corporation/sovereign entity of Arranic/Tyrran origin. It was originally merely another Arranic barbarian clan, but during the Tyrran invasion of Arran in earlier centuries it proved troublesome enough that it was able to cut a deal. It ended up acqu...

Re: Minor Powers

Do these fausts work with a singular purpose in mind, for their organization? Is it a conspiracy by demon-things to take over world crime? Or do the fausts just happen to rule crime because crime lords find fausts the most convenient way to gain power? Is their relationship symbiotic? If these faus...

Re: Weird Dreams

Last night I dreamt that I was in the British Army the day after D-Day, and that the BEF was under attack by a bunch of different monster-things, and I ended up fighting a demented cross between Wall-E and a Dalek. I only really remember the fight with the Wall-Ek. I and a bunch of other British guy...

Re: The Major Powers

Some of the similarities were done pretty deliberately, i.e. Myreth is supposed to be Stalinism+Maoism+Caste-based society turned up to eleven. And Chrome doesn't think Stalinism is a word. Fuck that shit. Like I said in the original thread, I was going for something like China Mieville's Bas-Lag se...

The Minor Powers

The Minor Powers The Minor Powers of Arcane Steels are factions that possess some political, military, economic, social, or scientific/arcane significance, though nowhere as much as the Major Powers. They are minor nations, popular religions, and lesser sovereigns; they number in the dozens and are...

Re: The Major Powers

Very interesting. These sorta obviously, but not outright, parallels modern real-Earth factions and while it starts off with a faction known for science and space exploration, we gradually go down to artificers and then fucking "necropolitan" cultures (how the hell does that work?). Necro...

Human Variations

Abhumans Abhumans make up around 10% of the world’s population. They are not reproductively isolated from mundane humans, and for the most part do not have distinct cultures or nations. They possess minor, if any, psychological differences. Their origin is unknown. Theories include engineering by t...

Re: Archoverse

Could you stick one in a really, really hot fire, and just...start sucking at it, converting energy into soulpower into useful spells? Get a sort of generator set up, so that your local wizard can start flinging high energy spells all over the place. That would be really cool if you could then figu...

Re: Archoverse

Looks awesome to me, the only big thing that needs to be answered is the question of the elementals themselves - where they come from, how much energy each has, and where they get their own energy from. Elementals come from, uh… the stork, probably. Call it metaphysical evolution or say a wizard/go...

Leon Trotsky, returned from exile By 1944, Trotters was dead, man. In light of how Stalin seems even more paranoid in some respects in this TL, I can't see him passing up an opportunity to bump off his main rival. Re: Archoverse

Thanks for the welcome. what is post-cyberpunk? Acatalepsy nailed it in one. I've always like post-cyberpunk more because of the attitude it takes (sure we have a lot of problems, but we actually try to solve them instead of deciding to bring down civilization in a fit of nihilistic pique). How exac...
