I think Mobius was retooling Nova in some way, but I'm a little hazy on that front. But i mean in general there's not a lot going on in Australia.

Nova got turned into Hank DeBruce, one of the Seven Serpents, the one specializing in electronic crime. And probably literal piracy, now that I think of it. That'd be awesome.

Random, very vague idea:

The Dark Sector and the Knights of Orion

In the depths of the Orion Gulf lies the Dark Sector, a place where long ago, something terrible disrupted space and time in a sphere a hundred light years wide. The heart of the sector is a place where reality itself has little meaning, where quantum fluctuations ensure that nothing made of normal matter can survive within, and nothing not ridiculously postsapient can avoid going mad.

Out of the relatively sane reaches of the Dark Sector though, come hideous things utterly alien and unspeakably powerful, the Aeon Lord, the Never-Was King, the Unutterable, and other such abominations. That they are a contained threat is due to only a relatively few people - the Knights of Orion, whose sworn duty it is to watch over the Dark Sector.

The Knights are a group of 1,000, whose oath it is to uphold honour and undo wickedness in the Orion Gulf. They have terrible starfleets, planets under their rule, and mighty armies. But most powerful of all are the Knights themselves. Each is the pinnacle of his species in both mind and body. And each bears a powerful sword known as a Godblade.

Godblades are made of material harvested by daring expeditions into the Dark Sector - in particular, crystallised fragments of shredded space time. The working process to create a Godblade takes 10 galactic standard years if a shoddy blade is wanted - if a good blade is, then it can take up to a hundred. But when it is complete, the Godblade is incredibly powerful, being able to slice through anything material, and a few things that aren't, such as force-fields. They also make their wielders untiring, and provide a slight level of protection against explosions or energy-blasts. They are the weapons that the Knights use to battle the monstrosities of the Dark Sector.

If a Knight falls in battle, his Godblade passes to his successor. The test of initiation for a Knight is being given a Godblade, then sent into the edge of the Dark Sector to kill one of the weakest horrors that dwell within and return some manner of trophy as proof of his victory. If he fails via death (for the Knights' honour forbids them from retreating), then the Godblade is found, collected and given to another.

The Knights have their foes outside the Dark Sector, of course. They are close to Mogar's star-empire, and thus perennial targets of his conquest fleets. There is the Fallen Knight Mordian, pirate-lord of the Shadowed Reefs. There are the Icon, robotic horrors that seek to unlock the secrets of the Dark Sector to somehow destroy all life in the galaxy. Then, finally, there is the dreaded and feared race, whispered of in dark voices, known only as the Horde.

The Knights are also looking for a legendary weapon, the Lost Godblade. From what they know of Earth, they suspect that the Lost Godblade is located there. And they will die to find it.

The Knights are organised loosely, but there is a heirarchy, led by a 7-man council of those Knights with the most experience, each a veteran of a thousand campaigns, each a victor of a thousand battles against all manner of foes. These are themselves led by the First Knight, a supreme master of all the arts of battle whose superiority in military matters is unchallenged by them.

Forgive me if I am focussing on one insignificant detail, but I really like this idea:
each is the pinnacle of his species in both mind and body.
I like the idea of each race or planet sending one champion to become a Knight, you could have all the planets around the Dark Sector signing up to a pact to maintain the Knights so as to keep themselves safe, making the Knights a universally respected institution by all of those planets. Then you can also introduce the problem of them trying to avoid being politicised.

As a couple of notes on this idea: A) I'd prefer their weapons to be called something other than Godblades, and maybe not be swords at all, but that's just me, swords seem very limited in a space environment. That's just me though. B) They don't actually need to believe there is a superweapon on Earth to take an interest in it, as it turns out, recall that Comix Earth is the resting place of the Great Old Ones, who carved out the Dreamlands with their sleeping thoughts. Perfect! If these guys got any inkling of that then they would be compelled to keep an eye on Earth to make sure that Cthulhu doesn't wake up any time soon.

Anybody have any idea what's with Central Asia in Comix? I know Afghanistan is (presumably, as I'm recalling this from distant memory) more stable, and there's probably Kragoresthan (judging by the name), but is there any more info, things I should respect? I'm asking this because I have an idea for a Central Asian playground of my own...

Comix! The Brave and the Bold

Post by speaker-to-trolls »

OK guys, you want a mad idea? How's this for a mad idea?

Being a comic book nerd who does not have the time and patience to actually immerse myself in the aneurysm-inducing, unfathomably convoluted horror that is ongoing comic book continuity, I watch a lot of comic-book inspired cartoon and TV shows, and what is the greatest comic book cartoon show on at the moment? Possibly the greatest ever made? It is Batman: The Brave and the Bold!

For those who don't know, Brave and the Bold! is a series with its tongue fixed firmly in its cheek, which basically celebrates the absurdity and the spirit of adventure of the older, more innocent and more absurd 'Silver Age' of comic books. The formula for this is that of Batman meeting up with various other superheroes to fight crime, alien invasions, monsters, and whatever, and the whole 'Silver Age' thing is significant in this because it means they have no problem giving Batman his own Bat Spaceship, Bat Spacesuit, Bat scuba-suit that can take him to the bottom of the ocean, and basically have him foiling a bank robbery by the Penguin and an attempt by Darkseid to destroy the galaxy in the same episode.

Anyway, through the course of this series the writers have an opportunity to use all kinds of DC characters in all kinds of different incarnations and put their own spin on them, it's really fun and kind of interesting to watch as the writers bring in relatively obscure characters and make them the focus of the story.
Why I am I blabbering about all this? Simple, I think that doing something similar for Comix could give us all an opportunity to explore all the characters that we have floating aroung in forumspace.

I am not suggesting we follow the formula exactly, Comix is not a Siler Agey place, people have their own roles and niches and levels, so we don't have anyone who could help Jurgen Baccara foil a ring of evil sorcerors on monday, battle cyborg dinosaurs in the Colombian jungle with Fidel Castro on Tuesday before helping Archwind fight off an alien invasion fleet on wednesday. That whole formula simply does not work without a ridiculous man for all seasons type.

What I would suggest instead is that we have a kind of series of episodic one-shots, featuring the stories of various different heroes and villains, and maybe in the spirit of The Brave and the Bold have each story being about two different characters getting together for a particular adventure. I would also say that we could have these all in one thread, and anyone who enters into it agrees that we should try to keep the stories coming regularly, say once per month or once per fortnight. The stories might link in or feed in to greater overarching arches, but in essence they would be episodic adventures which could be read on their own and left at their ends. So, Doctor Difference and Lord Fahrenheit join forces to stop the Cosmodore from stealing the treasures of the planet Mars, Louise Exner finds herself in Germany and working alongside the slightly manic Autobahnluftkapitan to foil the plans of Nazi sorceror Ludwig Schroedinger, Archwind and the Tellurian work together to defeat some alien menace or other. That's the sort of thing I am imagining. Of course, the net can be widened, there is no reason that Golden Girl can't find herself working alongside the agents of Gargoyle Manor if her village is being menaced by some voodoo warlord, there is no reason Archwind and Dr Harold Quartermass can't combine forces to defeat a secret invasion by Damask the Destroyer, and so on.

Also, I don't actually want to call this 'Comix! The Brave and the Bold!' this isn't just a rip off. I think a more appropriate name would be:
Tales from the Land of Legends

Any thoughts?

I approve. I actually planned to have awesome team-ups wherein Louise Exner ends up bumping into Fidel Castro as she explores Tibetan Yetis in Peru, who are enslaved by the Serpent Mr. Li due to his ownership of the Only Yeti Egg, and is trying to breed Yeti-Xabathos hybrids because a Xabathos Fern Queen had landed on Peru.

There's also Louise Exner teaming up with The Schach, Motherfuckerrrr!!! To stop the Theozoologist from developing an Ego-destroying chemical weapon that turns people into figurative Monsters of the Id or repressive Superego fascists, at the behest of the North Korean government. In this episode, The Schach, Motherfucker travels in a black and white cow-spotted box and is armed with a Psionic Stick-Thinggy that can influence brain electrochemical signals, hormone levels, and neurotransmitter compositions. Louise Exner and Karl Shylock act as his companions.

But then I got lazy.

I love it. I've had vague plans for the adventures of Anthony (Tawny?) Saint and Jurgen Baccara in Las Vegas, where they attempt to outdo one another in a series of progressively more insane feats of money-spendery, and foil the nefarious plans of Walter Ironsides/the Greysuits just because their alien shenanigans get in the way of their greenback-fueled dickwaving. This might be the opportunity to get something like that rolling.

Hey, I'm more than game, speaker. Roach and all the related Skyhavenite characters should do quite nicely for what you have in mind, as well as Shroomy's sky pirate chicks.

Great! So what does eceryone think about the idea of having a weekly/fortnightly/monthly schedule for this? So that there is a story coming out regularly? That is of course a lower rather than an upper limit, but it means that if at all possible whoever has the least in the way of other commitments and the most in the way of creative impulse and drive for that story can be the main one trying to do this month's story.

Sounds okay. If it helps, I'd be the one willing to do this month/week/fortnight's story.

I like to think I covered myself by using the word 'possibly' ;)

As for who, when and where, what does everyone think, if we start today we could have it by Monday 1st of July or the 14th of July, depending on timing, show of hands please?

And for who, well, does anyone besides Czernobog want to take a shot? If not then I'll leave it to him (or I'll do it if we have it for one month away).

To clarify the above, I'll happily participate, but the characters I have to work with are the Wayward Son and Nox Noctis. So we'd either be working something that's really high level or an enemy mine situation. Any takers?

Do we have any technical pacifists with an anti-gun hero rule that could be teamed up with the slinger?

Slinger: Bang! Bang! Bang!
Pacifist: Would you please stop that?! Guns never help!
Slinger: Good thing I'm not using guns then. Bang!

OK, never mind. I've just used up all my potential material with that exchange.

I could do something with my Voodoo Warlords and the Wayward Son, but I don't think they're high profile enough to actually fight him, so it would have to end up being a very political story where Fawcett has to try to get help people dislodge Deimos without just beating him up. Possibly not a good way to start this kind of thing since it could be hard to make it a straight up adventure story.

Hmm, what are you thinking of in terms of 'enemy mine'? A sort of story told from the persepcetie of two people working against one another?

Dudes, I've been thinking about superheros and the internet and have wondered if anyone delved into it a bit more? Like superhero forums and fansites? Articles like "How to be a Superhero" in eHOW? I was also thinking that maybe there are adult sites catered to superhero porn (almost gives an excuse for a cast of superhero pornstars) and Youtube videos of superhero mishaps and newbs exists. What do you guys think of superhero internet?

Also, dude, like, what about comic books and stuff? We live in a non-fantastical world (currently) so our superhero comics are pretty fantastical as well, even if gritty comic books are pretty popular. But what is DC and Marvel or their COMIX! equivalents like in a world of superheroes? I think it would be treated more like contemporary stuff, with Slice of Life and superheroes having their screen time in 'normal' comics. I dunno, I just woke up but had these musings.

Opinions?

That should totally be part of the world.

Also, I've been playing Arkham Horror the board game quite a bit. Been thinking of incorporating the locales and even the characters, or the situations, to Comix and maybe even the Crosspoints stories.

I just keep on imagining the MABRT whenever I play with my buds.
