Oh, right. Gettysburg is the historical place. New Gettysburg is, like, a place from Star Craft.

An idea I had for the Peacekeeper would be for the SDI to fuck up severely in their interdimensional warfare - in which they end up pissing off someone big, maybe not as big as Transingularity Earth, but still someone nasty. Like... aliens... bugs! Fuck yeah, bugs!

Maybe some species that Walter Ironsides, that Serpent dude Siege hasn't written yet, is collaborating with.

Anyway, the SDI and the US military cannot let knowledge of this interdimensional war go public. Why? Well... people would get pissed if it's revealed that America (Fuck Yeah!) was actually the one that provoked the war. Which they did!

Anyway, there's this interdimensional gateway hole, right? Well... we have the SDI patrolling it. We have a Megafortress assigned to watch it too. Occasionally, wings of Raptor Xs go with the Megafortress into the gateway to go to the other side to beat ass and take names.

But then! The gateway closes, or something, and we end up with a squadron of Raptors and the Megafortress... MISPLACED IN SPACE! On an alien world chock-full of bugs who just want to ruin their shit totally!

A compelling story of survival! Of going home! Of making peace, or eradicating an alien race!

Hrm... maybe the alien race isn't mighty or big, but they're persistent. Like, they don't have the capacity to inflict massive damage to the USA or to OZ Comix! Earth, but they keep on trying to do so anyway! Why? I don't know. Maybe they don't know what we are capable of.

So a small bunch of Raptors and a single Megafortress is sent back to show them, through not-so-excessive force, what we are REALLY capable of. It'll be a conventional ass-kicking, with maybe a few nukes chucked in, to convince the bugs that we're badass and to get them to finally give up their Interdimensional Jihad and get them on the negotiation tables.

But then the gateway is closed! IT'S A TRAP! The SDI taskforce is stranded! They're getting swarmed by the aliens! Either they GTFO somehow, or they UNLEASH their full power and totally ruin the alien's shit. But even then, they'll still be utterly OVERWHELMED and DESTROYED by the bugs by sheer numbers - so it's a no-win scenario. If the bugs do get them, the bugs will then get the Megafort's tech and be able to catch up with humanity... perhaps! Through reverse-engineering!

Or something. It'll be like Star Trek Forager, but with Captain Sheppard and the MFS Instant Sunrise instead of Janeway and the Forager.

Yes. The Megafortresses would be designated not as B for Bomber, but by MFS - Megafortress Strategic. Or Motherfucking Ship. Like... the MFS Masturbating Walrus.

Taskforce Cuntpuncher!

Thinking about it, I think this:

"Megafortress" and other such names could be individual nicknames used by its crews. Not that many of these monsters would be built, after all. If we go all-out with the madness: perhaps they were fitted with top-of-the-line avionics and computers stuff in the 1980s, and they developed rudimentary personalities as a result! Superbombers with primitive minds built of IFF transponders, flight calculators and tape-recorded doomsday protocols, their gray titanium bodies fueled by nuclear fire...
Is awesome.

Especially in the stranded-in-space (or another world) scenario I'm proposing! Randome Altarnate Realties!

Fuck yeah! As the crew gets desperate, as the alien swarms blot out the sky, the captain and his crew totally shit their pants.

Then the MFS Peacekeeper takes control! The Megafortress will go out and do what it was built to do - destroy.

Superbombers with souls built of targeting computers, flight calculators and tape-recorded doomsday protocols, gray titanium bodies fueled by nuclear fire...

FUCK YEAH!

Watching Dr. Strangelove has been inspiring! What happened to Lt. Kong?!

Oh yeah, the Megafortress should be TOTALLY STEALTHY when it is loitering within American airspace... silent, with the binary fusion reactors running relatively cool (Thank God for Cold Fusion!), and sensors being fed data from stratellites.

But when it moves - by god does it move! And when it's radars light up, it'll be like those early-warning systems that NORAD used to watch out for the Ruskies!

Or SDI could just close the portal with superscience and/or magic. ;) More seriously, I do kind of like that sort of 'lost in space' plot, even if it is very much 'oooh yeah, power of the atom baby!', if you catch my drift.

It won't be the Power of the Atom bit, but more of... well, it will focus on the military mangs and their Executive Decisions. Besides, you of all people should know the value of ridiculous firepower and technology coupled with character development. Or something.

It could be played for laughs, like Strangelove.

I'm so totally behind the adventures (in infinite space) of Captain Sheppard and his intrepid MFS Instant Sunrise...

I'm tired of these goddamn aliens in this goddamn dimension! Open the ventral battery doors and let's show 'em what 'Merica can do!

I imagine someone would lament the following:

'On one hand, loosing this band of unwashed nutcases and their Plane of the Apocalypse is positive. They are no longer on Earth, no longer itching to unleash nuclear purgatory against the first person to look at America funny, or insult its proverbial 'mother'. That Captain Sheppard and his crew are lost in far off dimensions and corners of space is no greatl oss. However, I cannot escape the notion that they are flying around out there and making us all look like assholes.'

But seriously, if done seriously it could be totally awesome and serious business. A fight for survival in an alien world - like neo-Battleshroom Galactica. Grimdark! With tough decisions, commanding officers making hard choices, hotshot Raptor pilots, and an implacable relentless foe! There will be moral quandries and stuff.

Hell, the centerpiece could be Captain Sheppard holding an entire city hostage and threatening to drop one thousand one hundred kiloton (one thousand 100kt) bombs on some place full of women and children. Just to get home!

Murrica, man!

(I wonder how our Peacekeepers can be refueled without landing. They can either go fly up into space to dock with space stations, but that's totally time consuming and defeats the purpose of having a plane on an Eternal Patrol. Maybe the Air Force can launch rockets! Into space!

The rockets will deploy large space capsules that will, in turn, parachute and float and glide into the ventral bays of the Peacekeeper! Either that or stratellites... or some crazy super-HUEG airplane. The Hercules 2! Or the Spruce Moose!)

Helicopters can just land on it. Although they have to be fast helicopters.

I just got hit by a serious case of Fun With Acronyms and decided that the AI which coordinates Blacksuit operations (just like EVA coordinates GDI operations in the C&C Tiberium universe) will be called the Stand-Off Computer Regulated Automatic Tele-Electric System (SOCRATES).

And just like NOD stole EVA and made CABAL based on the system in Tiberian Sun, The Greycoats will also have copied SOCRATES shamelessly and made their own version. Their version will be the Standard Operations Supervisor and Universal Management Intelligence (SOSUMI--"So, sue me."; their reaction to the Blacksuit indignation for their theft :P ).

Finally, since SDI was pretty much the death of Blacksuit influence and power, their coordinating AI will be named in a way that's a huge Take That at the Blacksuits: Higher Echelon Military Level Operations Coordinator (HEMLOC--since the real Socrates died from being forced to drink poison hemlock). Maybe, by extension, the US military uses HEMLOC systems too.

I'm not posting this in ACRONYM PATROL since, despite the silliness of the naming, this is a serious idea pitch. So, what do you think, guys? Will this fit into "canon" or is it too silly?

EDIT: Oh, and if the Blacksuits are ever brought under SDI control as its intelligence arm of sorts then the combined organization can be renamed the United States Universal Range Defense Corps (USURDC--Use Your Dick!). Heh, okay, that one wasn't a serious pitch. :P

EDIT 2: Oh, and SOCRATES could sound like HAL 9000, SOSUMI like GLaDOS, and HEMLOC like Joshua/WOPR from that old 80s movie WarGames! although, they won't have the start-killing-people tendencies of the AIs they sound like.

Hrm... how did the Blacksuits get enough funding for an AI, and I really can't imagine it coordinating their scattered operations like a "conventional" AI complete with holograms or disembodied voices carrying out human conversations. They're too retro! Unless their AI was invented in the 70s or 80s, the golden age of sci-fi, and ever since then the 'Suits have been upgrading it and it has remarkably kept up with modern tech.

Maybe SOCRATES can sound like Colossus? Or is Colossus too scary, with the 'THIS IS THE VOICE OF WORLD CONTROL' shtick? Does the AI have to have a voice? An unseen intelligence communicating through text on a giant cathode ray screen would be really retro AND cool! More like MOTHER in the Weyland-Yutani ship Nostromos in Alien.

It can have printers to print out further data!

This network could be interconnected via stuff like beepers and pagers (80s! Before the SDI ruined the Blacksuit's shit!) where the AI could communicate via text messages. It can be ugraded to use cellphone SMS!

SOSUMI (perhaps designed by some Japanese Greycoat mang?), being more advanced, can thus have the GlaDOS voice and more nifty features?

SOCRATES' simple mode of communication makes it easier to encrypt and less visible to surveillance networks looking for big stuffs with quantum coding and cyber-cipher locks and so on and so forth.

I don't know what the SDI's AI should sound like. But it should be cool, albeit unconventional.

Maybe SDI can have MULTIPLE AI with different voices! COLONEL! ROSEMARY!

I never said anything about holograms, mang.

You got it with the latter, actually. It was a system they had installed back in the 70s (with the help of some reverse-engineered Dreamlander Grey tech)which they keep upgrading. Which is why I magine it sounding like HAL since I associate HAL with "old-school" AI voices.
SOSUMI (perhaps designed by some Japanese Greycoat mang?), being more advanced, can thus have the GlaDOS voice and more nifty features?
Just because it has a Japanese-sounding name doesn't mean it has to be Japanese, mang. It's basically just a vastly upragded SOCRATES, with the advantage of the Greycoats having more money for keeping it upgraded. It's probably much more capable than the aging SOCRATES, which can't be upgraded to the same extent due to funding issues.
I don't know what the SDI's AI should sound like. But it should be cool, albeit unconventional.
I imagined HEMLOC having a WOPR/Joshua voice since WarGames is a Cold War flick set in the 80s (the reign of von Reagan!) and SDI grew out of von Reagan's militaristic machinations.

EDIT: Here's a sample clip. The voice is towards the end.
Maybe SDI can have MULTIPLE AI with different voices!
Or, y'know, multiple copies of HEMLOC. Just like GDI has multiple EVAs.

Oh. Sorry. SOUMI doesn't sound so menacing.

Colossus sounds just as cool as Joshua.

Then there's the CRAZY AIs from Metal Gear Solid 2.

Maybe the SDI's AI can have different voices. And, maybe, they aren't exactly identical - for security and redundancy's sake.

SOSUMI, mang. And it doesn't have to be. The Greycoats generally don't go for menacing sounding naming schemes anyway (Form and Dorian don't sound so menacing on their own either).
Colossus sounds just as cool as Joshua.
Sounds Cylon-ish and more evil, but could work. Although, these AIs don't "go rogue" or somesuch, so the crazy MGS AIs are not exactly a good example.
Maybe the SDI's AI can have different voices. And, maybe, they aren't exactly identical - for security and redundancy's sake.
Yeah, that could work too. Maybe the HEMLOCs are customized depending on where they're assigned, and given different codenames. But they'd still be HEMLOC systems fundamentally. And SDI Base One's HEMLOC (the original, I imagine) will have the original Joshua-voiced and be referred simply as HEMLOC instead of some codename.

Everyone knows that Anthony Saint and Jurgen Baccara are rivals. Despite their vastly different foci - Saint is a techno-baron providing all the cutting edge, bleeding nose heavy metal industrial solutions to all your concerns, while Baccara is an arcane lord wheeling and dealing in every desire your hormones can conjure up - they are both roughly as rich and powerful as the other. I like to think of it as being a petty and childish relationship that mixes competitive antagonism with a bizarre friendship. To that end, I conjured up something a snapshot of them in my head the other night.

The story begins with the two escaping from some sort of explosive experience. It doesn't matter what, because it's just supposed to land them in the general surrounds of the city. From there, they go and buy some noodles and discuss the world. As they're walking around the streets, they discover an arcade or a casino. What follows is a night of competition, a night of games. Baccara facing Saint across the blowing wind of table hockey. Saint fighting Baccara in the lanes of a bowling alley. Baccara and Saint - on opposite sides of the bar! And so on.

That's actually just classic! I mean, it fits well to Siege's description of them being like Scrooge McDuck and whatshisface, Flintheart Glomgold.

(Since Saint is evil, he's obviously Finltheart. Baccara has a black heart of gold, so he can be Scrooge.)

I am thinking that Baccara needs his version of Magica DeSpell.

Some kind of female demon, succubi, or something. Lillith, from Hebrewism?

Yeah, they'd be both hedonistic material girls, but one of them would have a sense of morality, while the other doesn't mind warping people's minds into perverse sexual servitude or some shit. Cunt magic! Like that whore in American Gods, but without the hungry hungry labia.

That's a great concept you have, Ford. I'd love it if you actually wrote the snapshot, if anything because the image of Saint and Baccara playing air hockey amuses me to no end.

No, Shroom, just no. I mean, what possible motive is there for us to make Austrailia a full blown aparteid government, even with their historical track record towards their own native population?

Shroomy, do you have any idea of the institutionalised racism that has existed in Australia since 1907? Look up A.O. Neville some time. Australia doesn't need an apartheid government, because it basically already had one forty years before South Africa. Keep in mind that the Stolen Generation and its intended purpose can be argued as being a form of attempted genocide. Australia had legislation which was proudly referred to as the 'White Australia' policy, and even came with badges proclaiming that Australia was a land for whites. There's no reason for you to know about stuff like the native reserves and all those laws and the 'Protector of Aboriginies' title, but it all adds up to the same result: Australia doesn't need to have more racism introduced to it, as Australia is just really good at racism.

I'm a really bad person, since I suggested that since I thought it was funny*.

But you'll note that I said "had" in my post, so that all that institutionalized stuff Ford said could be referred to retrospectively as "apartheid".

I know it's a horrible idea. Please oppress me, Ford.

*Some time ago I saw something on TV where Australia was mentioned and some dumb blonde said that she was glad that its apartheid government had been overthrown, apparently mistaking it for South Africa. I found it amusing.

I don't see any reason to have people retroactively refer to it as 'apartheid'. There's no need to connect South African apartheid and 'White Australia' with anything other than the facts of the matter.
