General Steel

Real Name: Vasiliy Leonov

Origins:

Vasiliy Leonov was a Colonel in the Soviet Army during the Afghanistan war, and was known for his determination and stubbornness among the high command, but it was when a mob of Afghan fighters attacked his camp, that he would truly shine. When the attack came, Vasiliy stood with his men, fighting even as a stray RPG hit a perimeter Tesla-coil, damaging its IFF receiver, causing it to randomly strike everybody (and everything) in the vicinity with bolts of lightning. Vasiliy was hit, scarring his face and throwing him back against a concrete wall. It was a miracle that he survived long enough for medical assistance to arrive, and at the field hospital, some doctors muttered that he would never fight again.

Vasiliy refused to believe that. Despite his wounds, he resolved to return to the fray. He was assigned to become a member of Project Zhukov - an attempt to build a suit of armour like that of the famed MAKS Mikoyan, capable of flying, offence, and defence. It was to be light-weight, but strong, made of Herculeum, a mineral that had fallen from space to Earth in the Tunguska Impact.

He put on the prototype suit, daring for it to work. It did, and several more tests commenced, as the engineers made several more test versions, finally culminating in the Zhukov Mark-1, capable of flight via a jetpack and armed with twin Tesla projectors on the wrists. Vasiliy was ready to fight once more. And fight he did.

During the war, dozens of Afghan militants fell to him, and as he fought, the data was transmitted back, and with each revealed flaw and weakness, solutions were put in place.

By the time of the Soviet Union's fall, his current suit, the Zhukov Mark-8, had been created, and he had been promoted to General. It is an excellent powersuit, but limited supplies of Herculeum prevent more from being made. The Mark-8 was untested in battle, until the brief Kragorestani War in Central Asia.

Vasiliy's men, a whole Division of brave Russians, had been surrounded and encircled by Kragorestani murder-robots, so Vasiliy came in personally to rescue them. What happened was a battle royale that ended with the Kragorestanis in full retreat and 5,000 soldiers rescued from certain death.

Lately, Vasiliy has retired and is now a vigilante, keeping the streets of Russia safe and fighting supervillains in epic battles. He keeps his old moniker of General Steel, however, as it all too often intimidates those who he faces.

Abilities and Gadgets:

Vasiliy's foremost strength is the Zhukov Mark-8 itself, a brilliant example of Soviet engineering. The suit is powered by a micro-fusion reactor, and uses a fusion torch on its back to propel itself far faster than the speed of sound, using plasma not required to power the systems and weapons of the suit to propel itself. It has inbuilt Tesla-projectors, capable of antitank or anti-personnel settings. There are also missile pods on the suit's shoulders, containing a variety of small missiles as suits the occasion. Also, the suit has an AK-74 gauss-rifle with an automatic grenade-launcher attached on its back, handy for tougher targets and also with laser, X-ray and thermal sights. Also, he is a skilled tactician and strategist, and always plans his missions well in advance, when he gets the chance.

The suit also contains a system that can easily tell friend from foe, and an automatic targeting system that helps him fire. It has thermal vision, and contains a HUD that tells him of his health, suit breaches, and ammunition remaining. The suit is sealed against radiation, fallout and biochemical warfare, and has an automatic cooling system. It also increases his strength (enough to allow him to throw cars and punch through concrete easily) and protects him, a useful thing when facing superstrong metahumans.

Personality and Appearance:

Vasiliy is aged, but still athletic and tall. He has a short beard and grey hair, and is well-built. Psychologically, he doesn't like killing, but will when he sees it as necessary. He is intelligent, cunning and agressive when in battle - he is also somewhat stubborn and overconfident. When he sets himself to a goal, he is determined to carry it out - even if it involves his likely death. He is generally contemptuous of magic, and dislikes magicians being near him.
You have ruled this galaxy for ten thousand years.
You have little of account to show for your efforts.
Order. Unity. Obedience.
We taught the galaxy these things.

And we shall do so again.
