Actually, I always considered Starkland to have a ridiculously low population for a polity of its size. C'mon, it controls 150 star systems yet it supports only 20 billion? You could fit that entire population easily in our solar system with plenty of room to spare.

I'm afraid that I can't give you hard figures for the population growth of humanity because, quite frankly, no one ever went into real detail on how the Human Diaspora worked. Arty made a few passing references here and there and I tried to create a more concrete explanation of the wars in independence, but neither of us established how long the time period was between humanity setting out from the first graveddies to present day. I've always viewed that the combination of the feeling of unlimited expansion and desire by the nations of Earth to increase their population would led to a pretty fast population growth. Take that as you will.

As for the size limit, the main issue was that there was confusion as to what Arty meant by 'middle of the road nation' when he described Concord, which had less than five systems if I recall. As I always understood it, he was referring to its technological expertise and relative wealth, as a three to five system polity being middle of the road, as a few of us voiced, was a bit too low.

Also, it's nice to see that TSW isn't dead. I was planning to make another post as well, but Finals are putting a nasty kink in that plan.

Maybe it is just one core world and then a whole pile of tiny colonies, with a token population and garrison so they can lay claim on the territory. I don't think the original article really went into it.

Plenty is an understatement!

That seems good to me. I'd just say it is the growth rate of plot.
