The Omniverse Meta

Post by Mobius 1 »

Something that occurred to me when I was wondering what would happen if I stuck the omniverse into the grand finale of one of my TE stories - what exactly comprises the accumulated in-jokes and references of this website? Remember the old Sliding Doors fic? The Omniverse Unlimited RPG? Ask Olympic with Ford commenting (in-character) on other verses? We all agree John Baylor is the foremost of the in-jokes, but do any other ones exist? What characters are known for their verse-leaping, or are at least 'in the know' (whatever that means)? I'd love to flesh out whatever overbranching idea we have, no matter how much it may be derided as too fatty nerdy.

Athenian Grins. :P

It's already appeared in Destructionator's TSW parody in Testingstan, and I've also used it in DOOM PATROL. :D

Although not quite as often as John Baylor, I have noticed that Isabella Nogueira is sometimes referenced in one way or another outside her 'verse. Especially in the OZ-that-was.

What about the OIL BLACK GOLD GASOLINE thing? Unless Shroomy got it from somewhere else.

That's a quote from Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior.

I think Saint Industries popped up a few times throughout OZ/O1; the consortium exists in CSW, too.

The PETROL OIL BLACK GOLD GASOLINE thing was a mistaken quote from Mad Max 2. All the Humungus did was just say gasoline in a strangely obsessive-awesome way. So turns out it IS originals!

Can't forget Malchus' various versions of his characters in different universes.

Nothing is bigger than John Baylor, who has been saviour of the multiverse on multiple narrative occassions, though the Ask Olympic thread made it implicit that the people of old The Logical World were actually aware that they were fictional, though that sort of falls into the vague 'pseudo-canon' of oTLW.

Looking at my avatar reminded me of the whole VLADIMIR PUTIN: VAMPIRE HUNTER thing that Shroom spread back on OZ-that-was from Comix to something of a minor board meme.
