The History of the Aquatic Domains: From The Birth of Magic to the Start of the "War in Heaven."

The Galaxy two millennium ago changed with the activation of magical powers on a galactic scale, when every world (nearly) was host to a percentage of population who gained magical powers. Each world was different, depending on it's already existent culture and the 'motif' the world was forged in. Some worlds were host to Vampires, some to Demons, but most were host to simple mages, although the types of magic varied from world to world. Those worlds lost in that night and the months afterward are not part of the story that be being told tonight. The galaxy continues to turn to millennium later, and it can be assumed for every world that lost itself to the newly ascendant mages, even more found a way to live with the mages who appeared on their world.

This story is about a region between the Scrtum-Crux arm and the Sagittarius Arm, where somewhere on a world that was left unknown by the galaxy at large was created a Oracle, a being of aetheric power and form who had the power to do anything. After his body died, he floated across the 'skein' of the magical field that now was active in the galaxy, and he dug deep to get out from the winds that tore and dissipated all souls naturally. Digging he foun dsome relief, but had to keep going to find total relief. Upon reaching this area he decided to create Heaven in the image of his world's religion, Jannah. He created a small space and gradually dug out the first chambers for his new heaven. Taking his time, he dug deeper and deeper until he was satisified with the size of the gateroom of what would become Jannah. He learned he was accquiring more souls who needed to be taught to help him in his digging, which he did. After a while, the initial areas (Place of Judgement, Gate area and entrance to Jannah) were dug and he constructed a gate that souls could enter at leasure but would keep the winds out. After this is discovered how to make automata for helping him in his efforts.

Some time later, but not before half of Jannah was created) the Oracle had been expanding the 'attractive' qualities of his gate, to accquire more souls who were wandering the 'surface'. It was here he found another afterlife and asked the man who created it to aid him in expanding his own domain and link his domain to Jannah, so that to enter it any would have to enter Jannah first, and asked these things in the name of God. This man said no, and that he would not make the gate to his realm second to that of Jannah. This stopped the Oracle from making the gate of Jannah more attractive and thwarted his plans. For this the Oracle was angered greatly and he sent eight Dark Generals to take over this other place.

They came with automata and a few other souls who would do what the Oracle wanted without hesistation. These took over that place and enslaved all the residents of that realm which has no defenses itself. Upon taking over, he turned the women of this place as slaves for the generals. Digging deeply, a new area was created in this second afterlife. A citadel was built with eight palaces on or around the inside of it's walls, each for each of the Dark Generals.

But upon the creator of this place, who shirked the call of one who worked in the name of God, the Oracle had a special torment. He would forever be in a room surrounded by moving pictures describing how his place was mutated for evil and how his family (the women) were forced into service of whom was named the Dark Generals. He would be given a most painful and horrific form and forced to stay behind his desk (also mutated). There he would be forced to remain hunched over his desk as he was forced to watch the scenes of torment/slavery of those he cared for. This desk was at the back of a long hall which was cut off from the rest of the Citadel below the Citadel's central plaza. having turned this realm into the beginnings of Jahannam he went back into Jannah to continue his work. The Dark Generals would continue along a plan created by the Oracle to create Jahannam.

Coming back to Jannah he changed the Place of Judgement sending those souls not from his homeworld to Jahannam to be tormented or turned into workers, with daemonic visages and anatomies. Here they would help set up Jahannam in the vision of the Oracle.

After another long while, the Oracle had turned the attractive properties of the gate to Jannah to the point where every soul from his former world was attracted to Jannah, and no more attractiveness could be added to his gate. Finding a cleric with the same drive at himself, he finally staffed the Place of Judgement. After this he sent those from his world who had come unto Jannah into the Place of Judgement. If they passed, he accept them back. If they did not pass, they were sent to the Jahannam. At this point Jannah was finished and Jahannam was nearing 'completion'. The Oracle betrayed those who were not of his world and after a battle threw them into Jahannam as well, as they were not 'worthy' of the kingdom he built for God, although those who remained loyal to him and had converted to Islam were allowed to remain in Jannah.

Back in the physical world, all this had taken two centuries to pass unknowin by the races who lives in the area where souls would be brought to Jannah and Jahannam. The Aquatic Domains first scientifically discovered how to watch souls after their bodies died float off. Moving after them, they were tracked to the Gate of Jannah, and the Domains sent specialists and then soliders into Jannah as souls, expecting them to tell mortals when they returned what heaven was like. Quickly found out, they discovered to their horror that a Place of Judgement was set up and their souls were being sent to another place. They did the dilligant thing and found out this other place was a place of torment. After some more work, they found that none of their souls remained in the first domain (Jannah.) It was here theri results were leaked and most races in the affected area fled, fearing a trip straight to hell. Only three worlds remained in the region affected - the Telepathic Greys, who live on a massive station with a machine that captures their souls upon death and keeps them available to talk to those who still live - and the world that beleived in the same religion as the Oracle. Finding this world, the people of the Domains were most cross.. Finding out that some of these souls remained in Jannah, they searched Jahannam. Finding a soul recently kicked from Jannah was a lucky break, and this soul told them of the Oracle. This was the start of the war. But first the Domains had to find the Greys and learn their technology for storing souls and the soulkeepers, the devices that allow them to absorb a soul into a piece of stone as a person dies. These were created and all souls in the Domains were given soulkeepers implanted somewhere deep in their bodoies or on necklaces. Upon getting the soul that spelled all this out for them, they brought this soul into the physical world where they coudl interrogate it further. Then the Senate, greatly angered themselves, agreed to all the changes they had to so they could go to war and prevent any more of their souls from being put into Hell, or Jahannam.

And so the Domains agreed to put the entire capabilities of their civilization and however much they would need to expand to match what was required by this new war, into the war effort. This is the "War in Heaven" that they speak of in quiet awe today. (The 'present' is two millennium later in the setting.)

It's certainly an interesting setting. I would like to see more as to how this pans out.
