THE MAGE WAR

1871 – The first year

The autumn of the year 1871 – the French Dauphin is killed in a train crash in Prussia. France, ever suspicious and arrogant, declares that the Prussian Imperium has assassinated him. An army is marshalled on the border. France goes to its allies Russia and Fenris – they are to march to war against Prussia. Prussia in turn goes to the Kingdom of Britannia and the Egyptian Theocracy – they join the war on Prussia’s side. New Rome, the Empire of the Phoenix and Stygius remain neutral. War is coming.

The Prussians and French meet in Belgium. A hundred thousand are lost on either side, marking the Second Battle of Waterloo. The French lose though – retreating desperately, running back to the border of the Belgian Provinces. The line has been made..

On Christmas Day, a brief truce is called. Momentary and fleeting, it ends on New Year’s Day, at the bloody Battle of Bouillon. Ten thousand die in the first wave alone, but the Prussians are dominant, winning the day and taking Bouillon from the French, who retreat again.

1872 – The second year

The spring of 1872 – on March 1st the Prussian offensive picks up again, claiming this time the Somme River. The Shell or Turtle doctrine is implemented. It consists of a group of defence lines built around Paris, which the French will retreat to when it is clear that their primary defence line is compromised, thus effectively handing over progressively increasing amounts of land to Prussia.

Prussia soon creates its first skyship, the Von Zeppelin, and uses it to win the battle of the Somme, driving the French back yet again. They counter with their first technomantic creation, the Behemoth, a massive, horseless land vehicle with a main gun that fires pure magical energy. Soon, the Von Zeppelin is destroyed, crashing to the earth at the Fall of Verdun.

As winter comes the Prussian offensive slows down, as it prepares to unveil its most terrible weapon yet – the Men of Iron.

1873 – The third year

The summer of 1873 – the Men of Iron are unleashed upon the French. They wreak incredible damage before they are defeated, killing entire towns and wiping out entire regiments. However, the French soon use their difference engines to create a weapon that causes the Men of Iron to turn on the Prussians, destroying the units sent to deploy into the breach created in the French lines.

The Men of Iron continue their rampage eastward, allowing the French forces a temporary breather. The Prussians soon attack back, sending aircraft and Britannia’s Dragon Knights to attack Paris itself from the air. More Behemoths are built, but are ineffective, as Prussia has discovered their weakness and strikes back at them.
Soon, France will fall.

1874 – The fourth year

The spring of 1874 – Russia launches a surprise offensive against Prussia, but it falters and is wiped out due to incompetent commanders. Prussia launches its final offensive against France, as the Egyptian Theocracy lands on the southern coast of France. The writing is on the wall for France.

The Siege of Paris begins, lasting six months and ending with a negotiated surrender by France. 2 million people have died. France returns to its pre-war borders and Prussia retreats its forces. The war is over.
You have ruled this galaxy for ten thousand years.
You have little of account to show for your efforts.
Order. Unity. Obedience.
We taught the galaxy these things.

And we shall do so again.
