The Britannic Star Empire

Post by Siege »

Miscellaneous musings and preformative stuff about BRITONS IN SPAAACE goes here.

===

The Britannic Star Empire is ruled by His Majesty Berenger Mael Camran bis Indore, by the Graces King of His Realm and Territories, Master of the Lion Throne, Protector of His Invisible College, The White Heron. Nominally, anyway: from a young age the king has suffered terrible and often premonitious nightmares. These clairvoyant fits have worsened significantly over the years, to the point where now he spends most of his time either in drug-induced catatonia, or phantasm-fueled furies. Very rarely is His Majesty lucid enough to address those not intimately familiar with his phantom horrors, and he has not been seen in public in ten years. He is not fit to rule an Empire. Far from it; he has clawed his own eyes out.

That task of reigning therefore falls to his twin daughters Saeran and Morgaine Camran bis Indore. Unfortunately for the Empire they do not get along, and never have. Their mother died in childbirth, according to legend because the twins fought each other in the womb. They were each born with one functional and one badly damaged eye, lending some credence to these rumors. Their perpetual feuding does the rest.

HRH The Princess Morgaine is the Mistress of the Imperial Estate, the royal hierarchy that directly administers nearly half of all territories in the Empire. She is deceptively charming, possessed of extreme political cunning, and may appear empathic and kind at first glance - but first glances can be, and in this case are, extremely deceiving. One of the deadliest political minds in the Empire, it falls to her to throw spanners in the games of the higher nobility that is always plotting to take the throne away from her family, much like her family took it away from its rivals less than a century ago. In doing so, she finds herself often relying on the Commons, whose leaders have thoughts of their own about who should rule the Empire -- thoughts that may not revolve around a King, much less a Queen... Morgaine wears a red eye patch over her dead right eye.

HRH The Princess Saeran is Knight Commander of the Twilit Guard, the King’s private band of elite terror troops. The Twilit Guard is the violent solution to problems that have proven themselves unsolvable through politics (or as is more commonly the case, problems whose political solution is unpalatable to the reigning dynasty). Saeran has a reputation as a psychotic berserker whose preferred response to even the most minor of slights is lethal force. She has badly injured over a dozen noble sons and daughters in duels, and outright killed or assassinated at least as many. The alien Hellbender shock troops under her command have given her the nickname ‘The Black Rose that Roots in the Sepulchers of Her Foes’. Her left eye is a cloudy black orb surrounded by heavy scarring that she wears openly.

This Space King Lear setup is a heck of a difference from valiant Queen Sophie Windsor. :shock:

For fun, I dug up the British Star Empire thread circa 2006!

There used to be this thread in old OF in which we pontificated on the history of te universe. In it I at one point horribly butchered Le Mort d'Arthur and found that its pseudo-medieval style was a lot more fun than the more typical military fare. This reboot hopefully allows us the opportunity to go farther with silly ideas like this; after all if you're going to do the Empire in space, might as well go full-Shakespeare with it, right?

Woah, now this is a radical departure from the OF I used to remember. The much more blatantly anachronistic feel of Britain has a very nice vibe to it, though. It'll be interesting to see how Prussia, the Star Republic, Eastforce, Japan, and the Freestates evolve to match the style you guys are going for.

Psycho nightmare haunted space kings tearing their own eyes out, loathsome sisters, alien terror troopers. I fucking love this insane obscene version of Old Familiars. Vanilla OF was really great and well-crafted and sensible yet stylized. But this... this is frightening. This is raw. This is...

Madness.
