Re: [science & tech] Starships of the United Nations

Moved the Super Cyclone down (I swear, I'll finish writing the article one day!) and replaced it with a Master List of all major United Nations starships, which will have short descriptions attached to them, while each individual ship will get its own in-depth article.

Arty tries High Fantasy Warfare

I'm hoping to get a universe out of this, but its still stewing. For the moment, here's some teaser fiction. Chapter One: Mobilizing “Just because the bell is ringing,” Artan was saying, “doesn't mean anything's happened over there yet.” “My young friend,” Krause said, clapping a muscular, buckler-c...

Added the framework for the worlds of Telemachus System, and the first chunk of worlds. Also added world art for Bardo, Ambar and Atlantis.

Whoa, how did I miss this one!

I like it - just the right mix of old-west desolation and things-from-another-world madness. You write "place" incredibly well, Siege.

Re: Food, Drink, Drugs, and other Consumable Consumer Produc

Mowah and Mowah-Derived Products The mowah is a grapefruit-sized fruit that grows at the bottom of the deep, narrow saltwater rivers of Maonessa, the Algian homeworld. Growing from a thumbnail-sized seed, mowah plants cling to submarine cliff walls with seaweed-like roots, drawing on rich volcanic ...

This is still in my top ten Best Gifts Ever, Siege. Damn its good to see old Dwight on the screen again :)

For anyone reading this new to Universal Constants, this story, aside from being damn good, is a really nice intro piece to the universe. Recommended reading.

Re: Universal Constants RP

I like to run them so that they work kinda like a round-robin writing session, with each player writing from the perspective of a character they've made. I'll be providing the backstory, antagonists, and the general flow of the plot, but its up to the players to get themselves to the end. To start, ...

Re: Universal Constants RP

Right now I've got two scenarios hanging around my head, one a spy-fi story starring Agents of Ivory Teardrop, the other with them as treasure hunter race: think Raiders of the Lost Ark starring Han Solo instead of Indiana Jones. Either of those trip anyone's trigger?

@Heretic: On the old Omniverse Zero forum, I ran a short-lived but quite fun RPG set in my Universal Constants universe. Take a look if you like!

@Shroomz: That's totally up to you guys, I say. I've still got the basic plot for the old game in my head, but we can always start anew.

Oddly enough, I think my favorite part of the Nibbler is its feet. By which I don't meant that the rest of it is bad, but the feet stand out as really nice, to me at least. I'd love to see some of your stuff inked, Zor, either traditionally or digitally. I think it'd really benefit. Worked about sev...

Re: The Book Thread

Speaking of books and characters who mix dark fantasy with crime fiction, may I introduce to the room the many creations of Richard Kadrey. Imagine if Neil Gaiman, instead of growing up in '60's and '70's Britain, had grown up on the means streets of L.A. or Detroit during the worst of the economic ...

Oh, Harry doesn't get breaks. That's why he's so darn loveable.

To paraphrase the author, Jim Butcher: "You know how Harry's always looking up at the sky and going, 'someone up there must really hate me'? Yeah, that'd be me."

Ask, and ye shall receive. 3 The Tiger carrying Armored Fireteam USA-280 floated out of the Indiana's launch bay, propelled by simple inertia. It was joined by more than five dozen others of its kind, as well as a quartet of massive Hyung-class landing craft, big ceramic-bottomed bricks with stubby ...

Re: Entertainment, Sports, and Recreation

Dockey Dockey is a portmanteau of "Dock Hockey," though this term is a bit of misnomer. Firstly, only pickup versions of the game are played in orbital docks anymore, and secondly, the rules of the game are quite different from that of hockey, though there are enough similarities that one...
