The Commander

Post by Czernobog »

Real Name: Otto Von Klausenberg

Origins:

Otto Von Klausenberg was born in 1914, just after the beginning of World War One, to a family of German aristocrats that lived in Northern Prussia, and were friends with the Schroedinger family that lived in Castle Sternberg. Otto's early life was rocky, and otherwise, some believe, he would not have become the man he is today.

In 1935, he joined the Army, quickly rising through the ranks to become a Colonel, and during WW2 fought with General Ludwig Schroedinger in the battles of the Eastern Front, Stalingrad standing out particularly, where he, a non-metahuman, slew a Russian sorcerer with only his gun and some cunning.

He developed a strong loyalty to Schroedinger, the two often fighting together in the hellish battles of the Eastern Front, together with Schroedinger's demon-familiar known as Tenebrae, causing havoc and devastation for the Red Army. And so it was, that after the Schattenstämme Incident and Ludwig's subsequent disgrace, he went with him to the now-empty Castle Sternberg, as Schroedinger's wife Maria had died in a Zeppelin crash while he was away fighting.

It was with the utmost loyalty to his commander that he volunteered to be one of the test-subjects for Project Century, Schroedinger's attempt to create an army of demon-empowered super-soldiers. The first few test subjects had to be put down when the demons bound within gained too much control, but Colonel Otto Von Klausenberg stood out as a man of exceptional willpower, and as the demon was bound within him, he gained terrible power.

He hid with his master, as the rest of the Century soldiers and the Company of the Dead were created, Otto serving as their field commander, and remains in hiding as Schroedinger waits for the time to strike...

Appearance and Personality

The Commander's eyes are seemingly portals to a bottomless inferno. They glow with the colour of flame, and if one looks closely tiny sparks and curls of smoke are visible within. His breath is hot, and his glare is like Hell itself is staring into your soul. He is strong, physically well-developed, and tall.

As for his personality, he is honourable to the extreme, even going so far as to give enemies he fights a fighting chance in battle. Of course, if they try to kill him, he will attack relentlessly, without pity or mercy.

Powers and Abilities:

The demon within the Commander ensures that he does not need to eat or sleep or breathe. He is much stronger than a normal human, has an eidetic memory, is much more durable, and has limited regenerative abilities. He can summon the hellfires of the demon within's home dimension, to devour the enemy. He has fangs that drain the blood and souls of his enemies, which he only does to a worthy opponent, the demon within feasting on the soul and becoming more powerful, if only briefly.

The demon within cannot be exorcised, for the runes of binding are within his body, at the genetic level. He can, furthermore, unleash the power of the demon fully, losing his iron-hard control briefly in order to increase his powers tremendously. He has no memory of the times when this occurs, as the original personality is briefly subsumed by the beast within.

Psychics who attempt to read his aura will discover the horrors of the demon within, something that either their memories will blank out or will haunt them for the rest of their lives. He uses two Lugers with bottomless amounts of ammunition, anti metahuman-magic spells ensuring that they are as effective against the paranormal as the mundane.

Weaknesses:

The Commander is always in danger of the demon asserting full control, and thus uses the full extent of his powers rarely, constantly fearing the permanent destruction of his own personality.

You have ruled this galaxy for ten thousand years.
You have little of account to show for your efforts.
Order. Unity. Obedience.
We taught the galaxy these things.

And we shall do so again.

Well, he's another Nazi villain and it seems like Soviet Sorcerers seem to be pretty easy to kill. But, at least Ludwig gets a henchman and we're not bestowed with another would-be world ruler.

I have to watch you, Kamin. Your articles are actually approaching inoffensiveness.

Two quick points:

Under your hands, Soviet Socialist Sorcerors seem to have become the new Technotheocracy. And by that I mean your characters seem to measure their badassity by how many they mow down, which is going to piss off Shroom, Siege *and* Stalin. There are plenty of other accomplishments he could have done during WWII, you know.

Secondly, "anti-metahuman magic spells" are plain silly. Ford has gone on at length about why he thinks anything that can negate all metahuman powers doesn't make sense; it's not as though all, or even any small grouping of metahuman powers work by the same factors or are controlled by the same switches. It's the same here. Metahumans aren't werewolves with a universal vulnerability to any single thing, especially something as amorphous as "magic".

Well, to be fair, one of Vice's Sins has the ability to negate meta-talents. But to be even more fair, she does this by telepathy, basically making people forget they have that meta-talent, and denying them the trigger mechanisms needed to activate them. Of course, if it's something physical and constant and untriggered, like super durability or super strength, she can't actually do shit about it ;)
